বাংলা রচনার অংশ: UNIT 1 Parts of Speech – Lesson 1
1) A frightened man was seeking help desperately. 2) The sun was setting slowly in the west. 3) A village boy asked the man about a necklace—এই টাইপগুলিতে কোন-কার্য্যে কোন शब्द অংশ কাজ করছে তা চিনতে হবে।
উদাহরণ হিসেবে আমরা দেখব—Well, the word can function as adjective, adverb or interjection depending on its position.
Lesson
Topic: UNIT 1 Parts of Speech – Lesson 1
Learning Outcomes
- Recognize eight parts of speech in English and understand their functions.
- Identify parts of speech in given sentences.
- Understand how a word can serve as different parts of speech depending on usage.
- Describe the role of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions and interjections in sentence construction.
Conceptual Explanation
Words in a sentence perform different functions. For example, in the sentence "Sumona is a brilliant student," the name Sumona is a noun (a person), "is" is a linking verb stating something about Sumona, "brilliant" is an adjective describing the noun 'student', and "student" refers back to Sumona. In English, eight parts of speech exist and the unit will discuss each part and its role in sentence construction.
| Part of Speech | Function/Example |
|---|---|
| Noun | Name of a person, place or thing (e.g., Sumona, London, pencil). |
| Pronoun | Replaces a noun to avoid repetition (e.g., she, he, it). |
| Adjective | Describes a noun or pronoun (e.g., brilliant, blue). |
| Verb | Represents action or a state (e.g., run, is, study). |
| Adverb | Modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb (e.g., quickly, very). |
| Preposition | Shows relation of a noun to another word (e.g., in, on, at). |
| Conjunction | Joins words/phrases/clauses (e.g., and, but, or). |
| Interjection | Expresses emotion (e.g., Oh!, Wow!). |
Important Notes
- Same word may serve different parts of speech based on its use in a sentence.
