1. Short Composition (Expository Writing): My Daily Routine

A daily routine is a plan of the activities that a person does regularly. It helps us use time properly and develop good habits. I am a student of class nine, and I follow a simple but useful routine. My routine begins early in the morning and continues until I go to bed at night. Although every day is not exactly the same, I usually get up, study, attend school, take rest and do other necessary activities at fixed times. At present, I am describing my routine to show how I organise my daily life.

I usually get up at 5:30 in the morning. I wash my face, brush my teeth and say my prayers. Then I take some physical exercise for about twenty minutes. Sometimes I walk in the nearby field, and sometimes I do free-hand exercises at home. Physical exercise keeps my body fit and refreshes my mind. After that, I sit at my study table and revise my lessons. I usually study English and mathematics in the morning because my mind remains fresh at that time. My mother prepares breakfast while I am studying, and I have my breakfast at about 7:00 a.m.

I get ready for school after breakfast. I wear my uniform, arrange my books and leave home at about 7:30. My school starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. It is about two kilometres from my house, so I usually walk there with some of my friends. Our teachers teach us different subjects with care. We listen to them, ask questions and take notes in our exercise books. At present, our English teacher is explaining the use of the present continuous tense, and we are practising it in class. During the tiffin break, I eat light food and talk with my classmates. I always try to obey the rules of my school.

I return home in the afternoon and wash my hands and face. Then I take my lunch and rest for a short time. I do not sleep for a long period because it makes me inactive. In the late afternoon, I often play football or cricket with my friends. Games give me pleasure and keep me healthy. After returning home, I take a bath and sit down to do my homework. My younger sister is drawing a picture now, while I am preparing my answers for tomorrow’s lessons. In the evening, I read the newspaper or listen to the news for a few minutes. I also help my parents with small household tasks.

After dinner, I study for two or three hours. I usually revise the lessons taught at school and prepare the next day’s work. I do not use a mobile phone while I am studying because it wastes time and distracts me. Before going to bed, I arrange my books, polish my shoes and set my alarm clock. I generally go to bed at about 10:30 p.m. A regular daily routine makes me punctual, active and responsible. It also helps me complete my duties without anxiety. Therefore, I follow my routine sincerely, although I make small changes on holidays and special occasions.

3. Paragraph: The Importance of Time Management

What is time management? Why is time management important for a student? How can a student prepare a daily routine? How does following a routine help a student complete study and other duties? What should a student do to make proper use of time?

Time management means planning and using time properly to complete different activities within a fixed period. It is very important for a student because it helps him or her study regularly, avoid wasting time, reduce stress, and achieve good results in examinations. A student can prepare a daily routine by making a list of important tasks and arranging sufficient time for study, sleep, meals, recreation, physical exercise, and household responsibilities. The routine should be realistic, balanced, and suitable for the student’s daily needs. Following a routine helps a student complete lessons in time and perform other duties properly without confusion or delay. It also develops discipline, punctuality, responsibility, and self-confidence. To make proper use of time, a student should set clear goals, attend classes regularly, concentrate on studies, avoid unnecessary mobile phone use, and finish tasks according to the routine. He or she should also revise lessons every day and use leisure time wisely. Thus, proper time management enables a student to lead an organised life and become successful in both academic and personal activities.
